Tragic Incident at Frolandia Swimming Pool Claims Life of Adult Swimmer
On Tuesday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred at the indoor Frolandia Swimming Pool in Agder, ending in the death of one of the participants. Around 5:20 PM, emergency services received a report of a drowning accident. Medical responders and police were immediately dispatched to the scene, and a medical helicopter was also deployed.
Eyewitnesses report that the incident happened during the so-called “voksensvømming”, or adult-only swimming session. At the time, a lifeguard was present. Despite a rapid response and immediate resuscitation efforts, the man’s life could not be saved. Around 6:00 PM, doctors confirmed his death.
The exact cause of the incident remains unclear. Police are interviewing witnesses and pool staff to reconstruct the events. The swimming facility has been temporarily closed, and authorities have announced a thorough review to ensure that all safety procedures were followed and that the equipment met required standards.
“This is an incredibly sad situation. Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased,” said Eyvind Formo, leading the police operation.
Frolandia Svømmehall is a popular local recreational complex, used by both children and adults. This tragedy serves as a reminder that even in supervised facilities, water safety risks can never be completely eliminated.
The family of the deceased has been informed, and the police will release more details about the cause of the accident in the coming days.
